Assistant Superintendent for InstructionAsst Supt Instruction

The East Irondequoit Central School District is seeking an educational leader for the position of Assistant Superintendent for Instruction. The Assistant Superintendent for Instruction will report directly to the Superintendent of Schools. This is a twelve-month administrative position. Salary and benefits are based on a negotiated agreement between the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and the Superintendent of the East Irondequoit Central School District.

A. Instructional Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers and administrators with regard to the improvement of instructional methods, techniques and modifications.
  • Conduct classroom observations and serve as a consultant to administrators with instructional supervision. 
  • Assist in the development of programs to meet the needs of students. 
  • Make such studies and reports as requested by the Superintendent of Schools.
  • Help interpret the educational program to the Board of Education and community groups. 
  • Coordinate activities that lead to the development of long-range curriculum plans through the curriculum review process.
  • Work with the building principals and faculty to effect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of curriculum K-12.
  • Plan and make recommendations for the revision, development, implementation, and evaluation of new curricula and materials. 
  • Maintain instruction/staff development budgets.
  • Supervise the District's instructional technology purchase and implementation.

B. Special Education Responsibilities

  • Supervise and evaluate the Director of Office of Inclusive Education. 
  • Plan and make recommendations for the revision, development, implementation and evaluation of special education curricula and materials. 

C. Staff Development Responsibilities

  • Creation of the K-12 staff development program for all employee groups.
  • Assist in the organizing, development and conducting of New Employee Orientation.
  • Design, develop and conduct training for staff and parents on the district's curriculum process, performance assessments, instructional programs, instructional changes and standards. 

D. Supervision

  • Complete observations/evaluations of assigned district staff.
  • Assist in the supervision of K-12 curriculum leaders. 

E. General Administrative Responsibilities

  • Prepare budgets for Office of Instruction, BOCES, and Federal projects.
  • Assist the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources with collective bargaining.
  • Supervise Federal entitlement programs. 
  • Disseminate information from the State Education Department, the district and other sources on current research in instruction and curriculum updates. 
  • Ensure that special education, remedial programs and other special population are included in all curricular and staff development plans.
  • Fulfill other assignments as directed by the Superintendent of Schools.

REPORTS TO: Director of Inclusive Education

SUPERVISES: Related services staff (e.g., occupational therapists, music therapist, speech therapists and physical therapists), ENL, district staff supporting stronger connections and personnel from other organizations who provide services through the East Irondequoit special education program and community schools model.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

To plan, direct, facilitate and administer the student services in the District, to support an inclusive and equitable educational environment for each student.

Program Administration

  • Sets goals for student services, prepares plans for goal implementation, administers the program, and evaluates the results in accordance with the District needs and expectations.
  • Keeps abreast of changes and developments in education and uses this knowledge constructively in the operation of the District’s student services program.

Oversight and Compliance

  • Oversee community schools strategy.
  • Coordinate tutoring and homebound instruction.
  • Provide oversight to the buildings for the management, creation, implementation, and monitoring of 504 accommodation plans to support students with disabilities.
  • Act as Medicaid Compliance Officer and ensure the district is abiding by necessary regulations.
  • Manage McKinney-Vento services.
  • Lead and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
  • Liaison between Urban Suburban and the District.

Collaboration

  • Develops collaborative relationships with agencies and support systems within the community.
  • Assists with the engagement of parents in district activities.

Staff Development and Supervision

  • Assist with hiring, conduct regular meetings, professional development sessions, and evaluations for related services staff.
  • Provide leadership and supervision for related services staff and ENL staff, including facilitating regular meetings.
  • Assist building administration with conducting observations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Performs such other tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Inclusive Education, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction or Superintendent of Schools.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Twelve month year.  Salary and benefits to be based on the negotiated agreement between the East Irondequoit Administrators’ Association and the East Irondequoit Central School District.

To plan, direct, facilitate and administer special education in the District.

Program Development and Oversight:

  • Evaluate the special education data and needs within the district.
  • Set goals for the special education department.
  • Engage in ongoing analysis of student need to develop effective programming within NYS continuum of services for students with disabilities.
  • Prepare the district's special education plan.
  • Chair meetings related to legal matters and more restrictive student placements.
  • Ensure manifestation determination meetings are completed according to regulations and oversee related paperwork.
  • Coordinates the District’s Special Education Extended School Year Program.
  • Provide oversight for compliance with requirements related to IEPS and CPSE/CSE for all East Irondequoit and Parentally Placed students.

Leadership and Supervision:

  • Provide leadership and supervision for special education teachers and aides.
  • Assist with hiring, conduct regular meetings, professional development sessions, and evaluations for special education teachers, aides and teaching assistants.
  • Ensure compliance with training requirements for CPSE and CSE members.
  • Assist building administration with conducting observations for special education teachers.

Compliance, Data Management, and Collaboration:

  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations governing special education.
  • Monitor compliance with state special education regulations.
  • Maintain and certify special education data.
  • Analyze data to inform decision-making regarding programmatic changes.
  • Assist building administrator with monitoring caseloads and student progress within special education programs.
  • Ensure timely reporting and documentation of student outcomes.
  • Attend relevant local, regional, and state special education meetings or conferences
  • Collaborates with and develops effective working relationships with the various schools, agencies and support systems within the community.
  • Performs such other tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Inclusive Education, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction or Superintendent of Schools.
