POSITION SUMMARY:
The Elementary School Physical Education Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing a comprehensive physical education program that promotes physical fitness, motor skill development, healthy lifestyle choices, and positive social-emotional growth. Instruction is aligned with New York State standards and the East Irondequoit Central School District curriculum, and is delivered in a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Physical Education Teacher shall:
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver standards-based physical education instruction for elementary students in accordance with district curriculum and New York State Learning Standards
- Teach knowledge and skills related to physical fitness, movement concepts, cooperative games, individual and team activities, rhythms, and age-appropriate sports
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of all students
- Integrate instruction in citizenship, teamwork, sportsmanship, and responsible behavior
Learning Environment & Safety
- Create and maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive physical education environment
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Establish and maintain clear expectations for student behavior consistent with district policies
Assessment & Student Progress
- Assess student learning and physical skill development on a regular basis using a variety of appropriate measures
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
- Provide feedback and communicate student progress to students, families, and administrators as required
Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities
- Work cooperatively with other physical education teachers and instructional staff to plan and implement a balanced elementary physical education program
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and administrators to support student learning and well-being
- Participate in professional learning, faculty meetings, and district initiatives
- Strive to implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals through professional practice
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to demonstrate physical activities and movements
- Ability to supervise students in gymnasium, outdoor, and other instructional settings
- Ability to lift, move, and set up instructional equipment as needed

Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district procedures, New York State regulations, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
Terms of Employment
- Salary, schedule, and benefits in accordance with the EITA contract
- Appointment subject to Board of Education approval
